4. Wichita State Shockers

Result: 93-76 Win

Opponent Seed in NCAA Tournament: 10

Similar to the Pokes, the Wichita State Shockers received a 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They face the Dayton Flyers in the South Region of the bracket. Yet, unlike the Terps, many felt like the Shockers deserved a higher seed after another 30 win season, a conference championship, and dominating most of their schedule.

However, one of the brighter points of the non-conference schedule for the Cowboys came against the Shockers in Kansas City, MO. WSU entered the contest as the favorite but got the short end of the stick by the end of the game.

OK State handed WSU their worst loss of the season and likely hurt their chances at a higher seed in the Big Dance.

The Shockers needed to put some tough Power Conference teams on their schedule, though, because of the weakness of the Missouri Valley Conference. WSU’s regular season co-champions, the Illinois State Redbirds, had one of the most impressive seasons of any mid-major school but did not make it to the NCAA Tournament field. WSU is the only team from the MVC in the Tournament.
