4. Virginia Tech Hokies

2016-17 Record: 22-10 (10-8 ACC)

Conference: ACC

ESPN Projected Seed: 8

The Virginia Tech Hokies saw their season come to a close on March 9 against the Florida State Seminoles in the ACC Tournament. Moreover, a matchup between OK State and VA Tech is much more likely than one between UM and OK State. ESPN projects VA Tech as an eight seed facing Virginia Commonwealth in the Round of 64.

A matchup between the ACC and Big 12 also has more at stake than just a single game. Both teams battle for the national respect for their respective conferences proving which one is the best in the country.

VA Tech also has a quality offense, scoring 79.3 points per game this season, that could keep up with the high pace of play from OK State. Although this might not sound like the sexiest matchup in a Cowboy basketball fan’s mind, there are multiple points of interest for this game.

The Hokies are a “middle of the pack” type of team with the potential to pull of major upsets when they’re counted out. That’s a very similar personality to that of the Cowboy basketball team with Underwood at the helm.
