3. Northwestern Wildcats

2016-17 Record: 23-11 (10-8 Big 10)

Conference: Big 10

ESPN Projected Seed: 8

The Northwestern Wildcats look to make it to the Big Dance for the first time in school history this season. They wrapped up a solid season, previous to Selection Sunday, with a loss to the no. 24 ranked Wisconsin Badgers on March 10 in the semifinals of the Big 10 Tournament.

Even though they have no Tournament experience, the Wildcats are a very dangerous team for anyone to face. N’Western already defeated a team that beat OK State this season. They beat the no. 25 ranked Maryland Terrapins, who defeated the Pokes in College Park, in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament by eight points.

Being a part of the pageantry of facing a team like N’Western in the Round of 64 would be extremely exciting for Cowboy fans. Even if the Cowboys were to lose, it’s hard not to be happy for a team making a run in their first NCAA Tournament appearance ever.

Considering OK State projects as a nine seed right now and the Wildcats project as an eight seed, this matchup is somewhat likely to actually materialize.
