Things are just going from bad to worse for Oklahoma State football on Friday night. Head ball coach Mike Gundy entered this contest with his seat on absolute fire following the 69-3 loss to Oregon in Week 2. Surely a bounce-back performance at home vs. Tulsa was going to be on the way, right?
Through two quarters, the opposite has been the case. In the first half, the Cowboys have looked rough and Tulsa is proving to be the dominant team. What in the world is going on? Because of this, Oklahoma State fans on social media are livid and they're ready for the university to move on. If that does happen, how much would Gundy be owed?
Mike Gundy's buyout with Oklahoma State football is $15 million
According to On3's Pete Nakos, Gundy agreed to terms on a restructured contract ahead of the 2025 campaign. With his new deal, his buyout would be $15 million if he's fired and his salary dropped by $1 million for this season. That was the first sign that Gundy was coaching for his job in '25.
After winning the season-opener, the Cowboys were absolutely dominated by the Ducks and things were made worse with Gundy trying to bring up Oregon's NIL budget before kickoff as a potential excuse. Fans didn't want to hear any of that.
Against Tulsa, with the stands packed, Oklahoma State needed to come out of the locker rooms with energy and passion. Keep in mind that the Cowboys were on a BYE in Week 3, giving them an extra week to prepare for this Friday night showdown.
To get things going, however, Oklahoma State has been sluggish with Gundy and Co. leaving the field for the halftime break down 16-3. With a loss, the calls for Gundy to get fired are only going to grow louder all over Stillwater. Fans are losing patience with Gundy and him being out of a job soon seems like a real possibility.
