After months without a contract in place, Oklahoma State athletic director Chad Weiberg has agreed to a new four-year deal, the university announced Friday. The extension, approved by the OSU Board of Regents, ensures leadership continuity at a crucial time for the athletic department as Weiberg spearheads the search for the Cowboys’ next football coach.

The new contract runs through 2029 and maintains Weiberg’s annual salary of $750,000, with additional performance-based incentives tied to both financial benchmarks and team success.

University officials emphasized that the agreement reinforces Oklahoma State’s commitment to stability amid an ever-changing college sports landscape. For Weiberg, who has guided the department since 2021, the deal represents both a vote of confidence and a well-deserved acknowledgment of his steady leadership.

This is a very smart move for Oklahoma State. Chad has done an exceptional job since taking over, and with so many other factors in flux, particularly the football coaching search, this extension allows him to focus fully on guiding the department forward.

Weiberg’s connection to Oklahoma State runs deep. A native of Stillwater and a proud OSU alumnus, he has spent much of his career in the university’s athletic department and has long considered it his dream job. He's come up through the ranks with Oklahoma State before branching off to Kansas State and Texas Tech in brief stints before ultimately coming back home as the Deputy Athletic Director from 2017-21 along with being the full time Athletic Director from 2021-present. He also made history as the first Oklahoma State athletic director to serve on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee.

Remarkably, Weiberg continued leading the department without a formal contract since June, demonstrating his commitment and patience during the negotiation process.

Now, with his future secure, Weiberg can fully turn his attention to one of the most important hires in recent OSU history, selecting the next head football coach, while continuing to guide the Cowboys through the shifting terrain of college athletics.
