On his 19th birthday, October 13th, four-star high school basketball prospect Latrell Allmond made a major announcement — he’s committing to Oklahoma State. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward chose the Cowboys over strong offers from Indiana, Maryland, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Ranked No. 27 nationally in the 2026 class by 247Sports' Composite rankings, Allmond is the sixth-best power forward in the country and the second-best overall player in the state of Maryland. His commitment marks a significant recruiting win for Oklahoma State and head coach Steve Lutz, who is entering just his second year at the helm in Stillwater.

Allmond Picks Oklahoma State on His Birthday

Allmond’s decision came on a meaningful day, his 19th birthday, making the announcement even more special. After weighing offers from several national powers, the Maryland native opted for a program that showed the most consistency and personal investment throughout his recruitment.

"“They always kept in contact with me throughout my whole high school process," Allmond said. "Building that relationship over time, just seeing how they never missed a beat. They go to every tournament, every high school event that they could attend.""

Highest-Ranked Commit Since Cade Cunningham

According to CBS Sports’ Adam Finkelstein, Allmond is the highest-ranked prospect to commit to Oklahoma State since Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He now headlines the Cowboys’ 2026 recruiting class, which jumps to No. 10 nationally following his commitment.

He also edges out OSU’s most recent blue-chip recruit, Jalen Montanati — making this duo one of the most promising frontcourts in the country for the 2026 cycle.

A Big Win for Steve Lutz and a Program on the Rise

For head coach Steve Lutz, this commitment is another major step forward as he builds Oklahoma State into a serious Big 12 contender. Allmond becomes the second commit in the 2026 class, and the kind of player that can change the trajectory of a program.

"“Just seeing their plan they have for me — they plan for me to be a successful basketball player on the court and also be a successful man, as well, off the court”"

That level of personal development clearly resonated with the young star, as did the consistent presence of the OSU staff throughout his recruitment.

Could This Spark a Chain Reaction?

With both Allmond and Montanati on board, Oklahoma State could be positioning itself as a new destination for top-tier talent. The momentum Lutz is building may spark a trickle-down effect, as other elite prospects look to join forces with two of the top forwards in the country.

The future is undeniably bright in Stillwater and with recruiting wins like this, the Cowboys are quickly becoming a team to watch on the national stage.
