Oklahoma State football: Best stats from 63-17 win vs. TCU
By John Scimeca
Oklahoma State football defeated TCU on Saturday night of Week 11 by a score of 63-17 on a night when the Cowboys honored 1988 Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders. The OSU legend had a statue of him unveiled outside of Boone Pickens Stadium while becoming the second player inducted into the school’s new Ring of Honor (after Thurman Thomas).
OSU (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) had its third consecutive win against Big 12 opponents by a scoring margin of more than 20 points for the first time since 2013. The Cowboys moved up to No. 9 in the latest AP poll with the win, up one spot from No. 10 the previous week.
TCU (4-6, 2-5), on the other hand, now needs to win its final two regular-season games to become eligible for a bowl game. The Horned Frogs were in their first road game after firing longtime head coach Gary Patterson and could not match their energy level after the previous week’s upset win against Baylor at home.
Entering Saturday, TCU had won three of its last four games against OSU. With the victory, Mike Gundy improves to 6-4 against the Horned Frogs as OSU’s head coach.
7. OSU outgained TCU by 409 total yards.
The Cowboys gained 682 total yards, including 447 rushing yards. This was the OSU’s highest rushing total for a single game since 2008.
Three different Cowboy running backs scored multiple touchdowns. A big credit has to go to the OSU offensive line, led by center Danny Godlevske. The senior transfer from Miami (Ohio) has anchored an improved O-line that’s significantly helped running back Jaylen Warren top 1,000 rushing yards so far this season.
6. The loss was TCU’s worst loss to a Big 12 opponent.
TCU has been members of the Big 12 Conference since 2012. The losing margin (46 points) was the worst for the Horned Frogs in this decade-long span. TCU also had the most points allowed (63) to any conference opponent in the Big 12.
In 2014, the Horned Frogs lost a 61-58 game against No. 5 Baylor in the team’s previous Big 12 high of points allowed.
5. This was TCU’s worst loss overall since 1993.
The Horned Frogs concluded the 1993 season with a 59-3 drubbing at the hands of No. 10-ranked Texas A&M in the third-to-last year of the Southwest Conference. Since this game 28 years ago, TCU hadn’t lost a game by this big of a scoring margin.
