4. Nebraska

Though the Cowboys won the teams’ first meeting in 1960 by a score of 7-6, the Cornhuskers have dominated this series all-time with 37 wins, five losses, and one tie against OSU. This reflects Nebraska’s status as a national powerhouse back when these two schools were common Big Eight (and later, Big 12) opponents, but with Nebraska struggling to regain its former glory, now is a good time to schedule a home-and-home between Lincoln and Stillwater.

The two schools, do, in fact have a series scheduled — it just won’t take place until 2034 and 2035. It’s a long time from now, which is a shame.

One of the best contests between these two teams would have to be the 2002 game in Stillwater, in which the Cowboys prevailed 24-17 before fans stormed the field to rip down the field goal posts. That year’s OSU team would finish the season winning six of its last seven games, including a 38-28 Bedlam win against then-No. 3 Oklahoma. Led by second-year head coach Les Miles and quarterback Josh Fields, OSU achieved its first winning season in five years after the victory.

Nebraska, entering the 2021 fall season under fourth-year head coach and former star quarterback alumnus Scott Frost, has suffered four losing seasons in a row.
