Scouting Report

Tre Sterling has made his fair share of big plays with OSU, providing the Cowboys with highlights and game-saving plays while roaming the secondary as one of the Big 12’s best safeties. The redshirt senior was named an honorable mention All-Big 12 performer following the 2020 season.

Talented safeties are highly sought after in today’s NFL, as many teams rely on these players to thwart the likes of Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and the other vaunted passing attacks that have continued to proliferate around the league.

Among his highlights from the 2020 season, Sterling returned a key interception for a 65-yard touchdown in the third quarter in a 50-44 win against Texas Tech. It was the team’s longest interception touchdown return since 2013. The Dallas area product also had an interception with less than two minutes remaining in a 20-18 road victory against Kansas State. His 13 tackles in the bowl win against No. 18 Miami was the most for any Cowboy player in 2020.

Sterling led OSU with 12.5 tackles for loss last season while adding 51 solo tackles and two interceptions. With a continually improving OSU defense, Sterling could find himself as the Cowboys’ top NFL prospect for the 2022 draft.
