Oklahoma State Basketball: Five most entertaining prospective NCAA Tournament matches
2. Wichita State Shockers
2016-17 Record: 30-4 (17-1 MVC)
Conference: Missouri Valley
ESPN Projected Seed: 8
The no. 20 ranked Wichita State Shockers make for such an appealing opponent because of the combination of the geographic rivalry and the fact that they already lost to OK State this season. The Cowboys defeated WSU back on Dec. 17, when the two teams met in Kansas City, 93-76.
WSU would be more than motivated to get revenge on the Cowboys if this were to be an eight vs. nine seed matchup. The Shockers’ 17-point loss to OK State is their worst defeat of the season. And they faced teams like the Michigan State Spartans and the no. 10 ranked Louisville Cardinals in the non-conference schedule.
There’s something about a re-match that seems like so much fun for Cowboy basketball fans. Especially since the Pokes proved already that they can handle the Shockers, Cowboy fans have that extra confidence about the matchup.
ESPN currently projects the Shockers as an eight seed facing the Dayton Flyers in the Round of 64 in the NCAA Tournament.
