Every one of the starting 10 for the Oklahoma State wrestling team received a seed for the NCAA Championships in St. Louis from March 16-18.
The Oklahoma State wrestling program had a record setting weekend in the Big 12 Championships, on March 4-5. All ten of the OK State starting wrestlers made it to the finals of the Big 12 Tournament, and eight of them ended up bringing home Big 12 titles. Moreover, the Cowboys set the record for total team points in a Big 12 Wrestling Championship.
However, those were not the only milestones the Cowboy wrestling program accomplished last weekend. They also brought home the 400th conference championship in school history, and the 51st in the history of the OK State wrestling program.
The no. 2 ranked Cowboys get a chance to bring home their 35th wrestling National Title as all 10 of their starters received seeds in the NCAA Championships which take place in St. Louis, MO, from March 16-18. Nine of the 10 Cowboy wrestlers that earned seeds ended up getting top eight seeds in the Tournament.
Dean Heil, in the 141 pound weight class, received a number one seed. Heil can win his second straight NCAA Championship if he wins is his weight class in STL.
Other notable seeds include Anthony Collica as the two seed in the 149 pound weight class. And, 133 pound wrestler Kaid Brock got the three seed.
One week from now, the OK State wrestling program gets a chance to bring home its 35th National Title in team history. Seniors like Nolan Boyd, Kyle Crutchmer, Joe Smith, and Austin Schafer get their last crack at bringing home an NCAA Championship to Stillwater.
More than anything, the Cowboys get the chance to defeat the team that defeated them at Gallagher-Iba Arena just a few weeks ago in the NCWA Bowl Series. The no. 1 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions did not have the best show out in the Big 10 Championships last weekend, which could give the Cowboys some added momentum.
