4. John Kolar

Height: 6’4″

Weight: 200 Pounds

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Sophomore John Kolar signed with the Cowboys as a four-star commit from Norman, OK, in the 2015 recruiting class. Aside from Cornelius and Rudolph, he is the only other QB on the Cowboy roster that has taken a snap in an actual FBS game.

Kolar got some action, along with Cornelius, against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in the 2016 season opener. He needs progression in quite a few aspects of his game. Getting bigger might be the most important thing for Kolar this offseason. At 6’4″ and 200 pounds, he lacks the size you look for from a Power Five conference QB.

Kolar does offer a different skill set than most other QB’s on the Cowboy roster right now. He is more of a dual-threat quarterback that can get outside the pocket rather quickly. However, he looked inconsistent with his throwing accuracy during the 2016 Spring Game. Yet, that’s still hard to judge because he was just a redshirt freshman.

The progression Kolar has made from year two to year three is really a key factor to determining his role with the Cowboys for the next two seasons. He shows promise fitting more of a J.W. Walsh type role than one that Rudolph currently occupies.
