The Oklahoma State tennis program received their highest ranking in team history this week, at no. 4 in the International Tennis Association poll.

The Oklahoma State tennis program is off to a great start for the 2017 campaign. ITA (International Tennis Association) ranked the Cowboys no. 4 in the nation this week, the highest ranking ever achieved by the program.

Cowboy tennis just returned from their stint in La Jolla, CA, for the Pacific Coast Doubles event from March 3-5. In their three previous matches, the Cowboys defeated three top 25 ranked teams out of the Big 12 conference including the no. 9 Michigan Wolverines.

OK State now owns a record of 11-3 on the season. Moreover, they return to the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater on March 10 to face the Memphis Tigers. They have two straight home matches, the second coming against the San Diego State Aztecs, before they hit the road once again.

Actual Big 12 competition does not start until March 31, when they face the TCU Horned Frogs in Stillwater. However, one of their three losses did already come against Big 12 competition when they lost the then ranked no. 11 Texas Longhorns at the ITA National Indoors event in Charlottesville, VA.

Seeing both the Cowboy and Cowgirl tennis programs ranked so high is good to see. The investment in the multi-million dollar tennis center is now paying dividends for both programs.

Just one season after losing in the National Championship against the Stanford Cardinals, the Cowgirl tennis team currently ranks no. 7 in the ITA poll. And similar to the Cowboy tennis record, the Cowgirls sit at 10-3 on the season.

Both the Cowboy and Cowgirl tennis programs are right in the thick of the competition for Big 12 team titles. Since wrestling just brought home OK State’s 400th conference title in school history, adding more conference championships would be more than special.
