Oklahoma State Basketball: Jawun Evans named Third Team All-American
The Oklahoma State basketball team recently had some of their best players receive quite a few accolades over the last week. Not too long ago, three Cowboy basketball players garnered All-Big 12 honors. Senior shooting guard Phil Forte was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12. Junior forward Jeffrey Carroll was named Second Team All-Big 12. And, sophomore point guard Jawun Evans was named First Team All-Big 12.
The awards did not stop for Evans with only All-Big 12 honors. Yesterday, Sporting News announced Evans as a Third Team All-American. However, Sporting News was not the only outlet to announce Evans to one of their All-American teams. Bleacher Report named Evans a Third Team All-American as well.
Evans was the 22nd OK State basketball player to be named an All-American. He finished second in the Big 12 in scoring with 18.7 points per game this season.
Although it seems like the amount of awards received by Cowboy basketball players is already pretty large, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association named both Evans and Carroll to their All-District VI Team.
Evans, along with fellow Big 12 point guards in Monte Morris and Frank Mason III, all came away with very decorated seasons. If nothing else, it was tremendously entertaining to see great back court competition in almost every conference game.
With so many awards pouring in for the OK State basketball team after the end of the regular season, it’s time to turn attention to the Big 12 Tournament. OK State faces the Iowa State Cyclones in their first game of the Tournament on March 9. A first round victory could establish the Pokes as even a six seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, a first round defeat would put them at a three-game losing streak entering the NCAA Tournament.
