The Oklahoma State lacrosse team got their first win of the 2017 MCLA season against the Abilene Christian Wildcats yesterday 14-9.

The Oklahoma State lacrosse team got a much needed win over the weekend against the Abilene Christian Wildcats. Yesterday’s victory over ACU came by a five point margin, 14-9. With the victory, the Pokes move to a record of 1-3 on the season.

Tough losses to the Arkansas Razorbacks, Tarleton State Texans, and Baylor Bears marked learning experiences that progressed the Cowboys to the point they’re at now. With nearly a full month off before their next game, notching the first win of the season is huge.

OK State got huge efforts from attackmen Jase Simon, midfielder Blake Pennington, face-off specialist Taze Mueller, and midfielder Drew Hogan. Those four players registered the bulk of the Cowboys’ points yesterday.

Moreover, freshman goalie Evan Parscale got his first career victory and had eight saves on the day. Parscale saw a huge improvement in his stats yesterday, letting in less than 10 goals after giving up more than 60 in the first three games. OK State needs him to continue to play solid in net for more success to come.

Freshman Luke Schrader also notched his first career goal in yesterday’s contest. Schrader’s tally marks something bigger, though. The progression of a new wave of talent for the Pokes under first-year president Brady Friend signals a bright future for the program.

Head coach Dustin Bunch started seeing results from mixing new line combinations together at midfield to spark something both offensively and defensively. If the defense can continue to progress the Cowboys could be a dark horse in the Lone Star Alliance Conference Championship come April.

It’s great to see the Pokes improving quickly to notch their first victory of the season. That makes OK State 3-0 against ACU in the last three seasons.

Up next for the Cowboys is a matchup with division rival the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on April 1 at 12 noon CT. Tulsa has yet to win a game this season and the Cowboys can take advantage building their winning streak potentially to two games.
