The Oklahoma State basketball team battles the no. 24 ranked Iowa State Cyclones on March 9 at 11:30 a.m. CT in their first game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship this week. The Clones defeated OK State on Tuesday at Hilton Coliseum in Ames 86-83. OK State looks to exact revenge on ISU for sweeping the season series.
Last season, the Cowboys did not make it through even the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. Kansas State came in as the eight seed and defeated the Cowboys 75-71.
Sophomore point guard Jawun Evans is sure to be motivated to win his first Big 12 Tournament, and get his first victory against ISU in his young career. This might be his last chance to get a Big 12 Tournament victory and a victory against the Clones if he declares early for the 2017 NBA Draft. Moreover, Evans was just named All-Big 12 First Team today to recognize his impressive sophomore season.
Head coach Brad Underwood leads the Cowboys into this game on a two-game losing streak after they had won 10 of their last 11 games. However, that was before they lost to ISU and the no. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks to end the regular season.
The Big 12 Tournament starts March 8 with the four lowest seeds facing off. In the first game of the Tournament, the Oklahoma Sooners battle the TCU Horned Frogs at 6 p.m. CT. That is followed by a matchup between the Texas Longhorns and the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 8 p.m. CT. The winner of those games face the Jayhawks and West Virginia Mountaineers, respectively.
If OK State emerges victorious then they likely get to face the Jayhawks in the semi-finals of the Big 12 Tournament on March 10 at 6 p.m. CT. The Championship Game takes place on March 11 at 5 p.m. CT.
All games during the Big 12 Tournament can be seen on the ESPN family of networks.
