The Oklahoma State basketball team had three players garnered with All-Big 12 honors today as the conference released their selections for the awards.

The Oklahoma State basketball team concluded the regular season portion of their 2016-17 schedule yesterday in a 90-85 loss to the no. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks. However, the Cowboys finished the season with a very respectable 20-11 (9-9 Big 12) record. And they should have a spot in the NCAA Tournament on lock as well.

Today, the Big 12 announced their All-Conference selections for the 2016-17 college basketball season. Three OK State players were honored with All-Big 12 selections.

Star sophomore point guard Jawun Evans received First Team All-Big 12 honors along with players like KU’s Frank Mason III and Josh Jackson.

Junior forward Jeffrey Carroll received Second Team All-Big 12 honors as he was one of the most improved players in all of college basketball this season. Carroll faces fellow All-Big 12 Second Team selection Naz Mitrou-Long when the Pokes face no. 24 ranked Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament.

Senior shooting guard Phil Forte received Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors as he rounded out the OK State selections for All-Conference honors.

If players like senior forward Leyton Hammonds and sophomore shooting guard Davon Dillard had played like they did down the stretch, the entire season, then they might have had a chance at getting selected for one of the teams. However, Dillard still has two more years to receive that honor, while Hammonds graduates after the end of the season.

Other notable selections for Big 12 honors included Mason III for Player of the Year, Jackson for Freshman of the Year, and KU head coach Bill Self for Coach of the Year once again.

With his selection for All-Big 12 First Team, Evans now has four Big 12 awards on his resume. Last season, he took home Newcomer of the Year, All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team.

Furthermore, the improvement from last year’s team to this year’s team can be shown in the awards. Only two Cowboys received All-Conference honors last season and both were only Honorable Mentions. Carroll, who was on the Cowboy basketball roster last season and did not even start, was basically named as one of the 10 best players in the entire conference.
