The Oklahoma State lacrosse team looks to notch their first win of the season this weekend as they face Tarleton State and Baylor.

The Oklahoma State lacrosse team got off to a rough start last weekend against the Arkansas Razorbacks. They lost their first matchup of the season, in Fayetteville, 24-6 in what could really be characterized as a learning experience. They only have nine returning players on a roster with more than 22 total this season. Playing a division one opponent like the Razorbacks is a good thing to do at the beginning of the season to figure out and improve upon the weaknesses.

The roster has an abundance of young talent and potential that makes even the near future for OK State very bright. Players like freshman attackmen Jase Simon, freshman midfield Blake Pennington, sophomore midfielder Taze Mueller, and freshman defender Will Ferguson present a promising future right around the corner in Stillwater.

First-year head coach Dustin Bunch started to figure out where the chemistry at all positions on field last weekend. It’s hard to think of a better coach for Cowboy lacrosse than a guy like Bunch that is so committed to getting the team to buy in and be successful long-term.

This weekend, the Pokes take on  the Tarleton State Texans and Baylor Bears. It’s a great opportunity for the Cowboy lacrosse team to get two huge wins against division two Lone Star Alliance opponents. Faceoff against the Texans is tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT in Stephenville, TX. Faceoff against the Bears is Sunday at 12 p.m. in Stillwater. Both TSU and BU have already notched their first wins of the season.

Fatigue could be a factor against BU on Sunday because the Pokes play a game less than 24 hours before in a different state. However, midfield fatigue was not a big issue against the Razorbacks, just finding the right method working for OK State. Moreover, BU has a matchup with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, in Tulsa, tomorrow so they could be facing fatigue as well since both their games are on the road at least five hours away from Waco.
