Oklahoma State Basketball: Five reasons why sweeping OU feels great
1. Partying like it’s 2004
The last time the Pokes swept the Sooners during the regular season was way back during the 2003-04 college basketball season. That should bring back memories of a very special season for OK State fans.
The 2003-04 season was the last time the Cowboys made it to the Final Four, under former star point guard John Lucas III. That was also one of the last seasons that former head coach Eddie Sutton was coaching the Pokes.
Obviously, it’s hard to compare a team that finished the season 31-4 to a team currently with a record of 18-9. But the Pokes are incredibly hot right now on their three-game winning streak. Underwood had success at Stephen F. Austin fighting against the odds in the NCAA Tournament.
It seems like success has been enormously hard for the Pokes to come by of late against the Sooners. Things like losing the last two Bedlam games by considerable margins in football and up until this basketball season not defeating the Sooners in Norman since 2004. It’s nice to appreciate the victories when they come along, especially in a fashion like sweeping your biggest rival in one of the biggest sports at your school.
