Oklahoma State Women’s Basketball: Cowgirls have winnable game against Kansas
The Oklahoma State women’s basketball team faces the Kansas Jayhawks, looking to get their 14th win of the season, in Lawrence on Feb. 8.
It has been a rough season for the Oklahoma State women’s basketball program. They enter their matchup with the Kansas Jayhawks on Feb. 8 with a 13-9 (3-8 Big 12) record. The first meeting between these two teams ended in a 74-70 victory for the Cowboys on Jan. 25. However, the Pokes victory over KU came at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater and this time around they are playing in Lawrence.
That victory over KU was also the last time the Cowgirls achieved a win, as they currently ride a three-game losing streak. They lost their last two games to the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners by a combined 20 points. The games against OU and UT were also both at home.
The Cowgirls need a solid run through the rest of their conference schedule to even have a prayer of making it to the NCAA Tournament. A sweep of KU would be a good start to making their case with a good resume.
Yet, the schedule gets much harder when they take on the Baylor Bears on Feb. 18 in Waco. Their first matchup with BU ended in a 36 point defeat. But, fans should focus on the matchup with KU first.
KU enters this matchup with a record of 7-16 (1-11 Big 12). In effect, a loss to the worst women’s basketball team in the conference would not look good for the Pokes.
Aside from the Jayhawks’ win against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, their matchup with the Cowgirls was the closest they have come to a win over a Big 12 opponent.
This will be an interesting matchup to watch from both sides. Tip-off at Allen Fieldhouse tomorrow is at 7 p.m. CT. You can catch the game live on the radio through the OK State website here.
