Alas, we finally get to Oklahoma State.
The Match Up: Mike Gundy would be going to Florida after all. The Gators have hired former Colorado State Head Coach Jim McElwain to replace Muschamp. Gundy was never a serious candidate it seems. The rumors alone would add intrigue to this hypothetical match up.
McElwain looks to inject some life into an anemic Florida offense and the Cowboys would not exactly be bringing the greatest show on turf to Gainesville. How long will it take McElwain to improve the Gator attack? Could the Cowboys protect J.W. Walsh, Daxx Garmin or Mason Rudolph or whoever the quarterback du jour is against an SEC pass rush? Just enough. Score: Oklahoma State 31 Florida 27
Likely or Not: This is easy to envision as a neutral site game but here are some of Florida’s non-conference home opponents from recent years: Miami (OH), South Florida, Florida Atlantic, UAB, Furman, Appalachian State, Jacksonville State, Bowling Green, Louisiana-Lafayette, Toledo, Georgia Southern (that didn’t go as planned), Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky. The Gators do host Florida State bi-annually, but Oklahoma State is probably not on the Florida non-conference wish list.
