Wildcards and Fillers
For the most part, after two or three levels on the depth chart, players usually don’t get playing time. Unless a string of injuries opens up a spot, most players in their positions play on special teams. So there are the players who you likely won’t see…. and then you have Tyreek Hill.
Lets start with Hill. The reason I don’t put Tyreek Hill, probably the fastest and the player with the most potential on the team, at the starting running back position is because I have no idea where the heck he will play.
With a 20.14 200 meter time and a 4.32 40, Hill is probably one of the faster players to ever play at Oklahoma State. This is exactly why it is so hard to pin down where he might play on the field. On the OSU roster, Hill is listed as a receiver. With his ability to catch the ball and his obvious advantage of speed, this seems like a natural position for him. But to say he won’t line up and get several touches out of the backfield is straight up denial.
Now track speed doesn’t always transfer over to football, but with the plays he made in spring football and what teammates have said of him since he arrived on campus, Hill is definitely in the mix at running back. Whether or not he will the next coming of De’Anthony Thomas is another story.
Now here are the dedicated Cowboys you most likely won’t see play a down at running back:
