The Sports Illustrated report accusing Oklahoma State University of numerous improprieties is not going to go away any time soon, but in my opinion, Mike Gundy is dealing with the situation at hand the right way.

The report alleges academic fraud, drug use, sex being provided to recruits from hostesses and athletes being paid based on their performance, most of this occurring between 2001 and 2007.

It is understood that one of Mike Gundy’s favorite sayings is “avoiding distractions”, one could say that phrase has become his catchphrase. To Coach Gundy, that is a key to a successful program, I couldn’t agree more.

The media is having a field day with these accusations, as expected, and Coach Gundy is not allowing it to deter his team. In a media teleconference, he stated that his personal opinion is for the players to “go about their daily activity.” He added that the players “persevere through everything”, and they could not “possibly care less.”

This is understandable, considering the fact that none of the allegations include anyone currently playing for or employed at Oklahoma State. When asked about former assistant Joe DeForest, Gundy declined to comment.

Mike Gundy has the right idea. These allegations are of the past, and even if they are true, he personally had nothing to do with any of it and it should not affect the current program. He as head coach, and the team should disregard it and focus on what they do best… WIN.
