Oklahoma State basketball point guard Jawun Evans received Big 12 Player of the Week honors after averaging 21.5 points per game last week.

For the third time this season Oklahoma State basketball point guard Jawun Evans was named Big 12 Player of the Week. Evans led the Cowboys to victories over the TCU Horned Frogs and Bedlam rival the Oklahoma Sooners. He had one of his best games of the season against OU with 27 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and four steals. His heroics against the Sooners were likely the deciding factor for him to garner Big 12 POW honors.

Evans added another 16 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and one steal against the Frogs in the Pokes 71-68 road victory in Fort Worth, TX. Those two victories extended the Cowboys winning streak to three games. They have also won eight of their last nine games. OK State is currently the hottest team in the Big 12 and Evans is a big reason for that.

If Evans does decide to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft that means he only has three more regular season games left in an OK State uniform and only two games left at Gallagher-Iba Arena. It seems unlikely that he will declare for the draft early, but Pokes fans will get a great effort from him in his final games if he leaves after this season.

Evans averages 18.2 points per game, 5.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.0 steals this season. He is the biggest reason why the Cowboys are on such a hot streak and why they currently project as at least at eight seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Having a player like Evans at the point gives Cowboy fans confidence that we can win on any given night which will be a huge boost come Tournament time. He also has a chance to get the Pokes ranked in the AP Top 25 if the Kansas State Wildcats and the Texas Tech Red Raiders this week. OK State currently sits at no. 33 in this week’s AP Poll.
