Gallagher-Iba Arena welcomed a well-known Oklahoma State basketball alum yesterday when Marcus Smart witnessed a huge Bedlam victory.

Former Oklahoma State basketball point guard Marcus Smart was spotted in the stands at Gallagher-Iba Arena yesterday as the Cowboys took on the Oklahoma Sooners in Bedlam. It was a welcome site for Cowboy fans as Smart is one of the most talented players to ever wear an OK State basketball jersey.

The Boston Celtics’ point guard took advantage of his time during the All-Star break to go watch his alma mater defeat their in state rival yesterday 96-92. That was just the beginning of the celebration though as Cowboy fans also enjoyed the season sweep of the Sooners since OK State won in Norman 68-66 in the first Bedlam matchup of the year.

Previous to the two victories against OU this season, OK State had not beat the Sooners since Smart’s freshman year back in 2013. That was also the same season that Smart led the Pokes to a road win over the Kansas Jayhawks where he back flipped on the Jayhawk logo.

Smart also got to witness another great point guard in the making in Stillwater. Star sophomore point guard Jawun Evans makes the Cowboys one of the most dangerous teams in the Big 12 on any given night. Evans finished with 27 points and nine assists yesterday nearly on his way to a double-double.

It’s always great to see Cowboy basketball alum supporting the current program, especially with a first-year head coach in Brad Underwood. Smart was actually originally recruited by former head coach Travis Ford in somewhat of a package deal with current senior shooting guard Phil Forte.

Smart joined a sellout crowd in GIA last night with an official attendance of 13,611. Stillwater is once again home to a revived basketball program with one of the toughest arenas in the country to play in for the road team.

The days of success the Cowboys had with Smart seem to have returned to OK State. A school that was once known as a basketball school seems to have engaged the fan base once again.
