100% Orange Juice: Defense/Special Teams Breakdown, Overcoming Youth

Good Morning and Welcome back to 100% OJ, your morning stop for Oklahoma State athletics

Whether you are rushing out the door or sitting down with your phone or computer, everyone needs a good glass of orange juice in the morning. So sit down, relax and enjoy!

The beginning of football season is a little under two weeks away, and the questions are still numerous for a young Oklahoma State football squad. Positions starters are still unannounced and inexperience is the biggest question going into the season.

For a more in-depth breakdown of the Oklahoma State football defense and special teams, Ryan Stewart of News9.com has what you need to know here.

Junior Jimmy Bean (6-5, 250) is arguably the star of the bunch as an athletic speed rusher who ended on a high note with seven tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack in the Cotton Bowl after starting every game in 2013.

If anything, the Cowboys defensive interior is the one position group that will have plenty of experience this year.

Speaking of inexperience, the Cowboys are extremely young on both sides of the ball. With 19 starters leaving after last season, freshmen will be looked upon to carry much of the weight that some seniors did last year.

Nathan Ruiz of the Daily O’Collegian has the story on Oklahoma State football overcoming their youth here.

Gundy has been impressed with the play of all freshmen.
“They’re learning,” he said. “They’re improved. … I think I counted eight freshmen on the field at one time. It’s a good thing, but you also hold your breath at the same time.”

All Oklahoma State fans will be holding our breaths too. Every. Last. Down.

In other non-OSU news…

– The situation in Ferguson, MO is continuing to deteriorate. No political commentary here, but make sure to look into the situation.

– The Denver Broncos seem to be in good form in the preseason.
